A gong show is a comedy show where the audience is allowed to vote you off if they don’t think you’re funny. I’ve done five gong shows so far, but last night at the Ding Dong Gong Show, I actually got through 5 minutes without being gonged off!

Doesn’t sound that impressive when you write it down, but it’s a big deal for me. I’ll post video when I have it. Here’s what happened when I tried to do my popular ‘owl bit’ at Ding Dong Gong back in May.

Mediaeval Baebes

Speaking of burning bridges, I did a gig in a pub in Colindale that is full of memorabilia of the Mediaeval Baebes, a band of attractive female vocalists who do mediaeval-style songs. There is all posters and mandolins and that. This is apparently because the owner of the pub is married to one of the Baebes.

Of course you aren’t supposed to reference the Baebes in your set, which resulted in various comics referencing them and culminating in this:

Today’s special recommendations (market prices)

  • Here’s my newly updated list of Things I wish I'd known when I started stand-up, which has attracted praise and accusations of hypocrisy from fellow acts.

  • There’s a new series of Stephen Merchant’s The Outlaws and so far it’s at least as good as S01.

  • Remember when I kept recommending Liz Kingsman’s One-Woman Show? She won some award for it.

Liz Kingsman getting an award from Eddie Izzard
Proof that women CAN be funny
  • This Soulwax remix of Wet Leg’s Too Late Now is pretty good, but to my mind, the best sexually provocative grrl rock band that people mime to on Tik-Tok is still Sorry Mom.

  • I’m streaming my attempts to kill Hitler (in Sniper Elite 5) on Twitch at https://twitch.tv/dr1pgrind - note that when you tune in, you’re not just watching me play the game, I’m also maintaining an informative and hilarious commentary the whole time (although I may go a bit quiet if things are getting tricky). I’ll be streaming live an hour after you receive this. If you have a Twitch account, please subscribe so I can become a Twitch affiliate and make bank. Here’s a clip where I kill Hitler completely by accident.

  • Stavros Halkias’s latest hour is on YouTube in full. In related news, Cum Town is rebranding to become The Adam Friedland Show. I’m excited to see the new direction.

  • Nathan Fielder has a new project called The Rehearsal coming out July 15 on some Yank channel that will force me to pirate it:
