I didn’t win anything in that fantasy writing contest I kept going on about. They received about 4000 entries so it was pretty long odds. I might try to write some more of the story anyway, if I can think of a good idea for what happens next.
I did win my Roast Battle UK battle on Friday night. It was a really good one: I was up against Joseph Murphy who was very funny, with Mark O’Keefe doing an excellent job as MC. Due to some kind of logistical problem, there were 4 judges instead of the usual 3, most of them even drunker than usual. The judges were tied so the result of my battle went to an audience cheer-off. Afterwards a few of the crowd came up to me and said how much they had enjoyed the show, which is the most important thing. After me winning.
When and where can you see me doing stand-up?
I’m going to be doing some gong shows that I’m not going to list here because there’s no point you coming to see me get voted off after 2 minutes.
Tuesday June 28th 7:30pm (doors 7pm) - We Are Funny Project
Great lineup. Headliner Dan Antopolski. 10 minutes from Rob Moriarty who is good.
Free! Reserve a seat here quick before they’re all gone.
Farrs, 17-19 Dalston Lane, E8 3DF
Wednesday June 29th 7:30pm - G&B Arch 1
I MIGHT be doing this as a dog, if I can the ears set up in time.
Unit 1, West Ham Arches, Cranberry Ln, London E16 4BJ
CANCELLED: Thursday June 30th 7:30pm (start dining at 6pm) - inamo, Soho
This is still going ahead, but apparently they overbooked comedians due to a “clerical error”, so I’m not on the line-up any more. :( I thought I did good last time, I didn’t even say anything that bad.
Onyx Bar, inamo Covent Garden, 11-14 Hanover Place, London WC2E 9JP
Tuesday July 5th 8pm - Lolipops, Southwark
Room above a nice pub that serves decent food. Make sure you get the right White Hart, there is another one nearby.
The White Hart, 22 Great Suffolk Street, London SE1 0UG
Thursday July 7th 8pm - Colindale Comedy
Come watch me try to engage a rowdy pub crowd who aren’t listening. And most likely fail.
Chandos Arms, 31 Colindale Ave, London NW9 5DS
Sunday July 17th 3:30pm - G&B Cabaret Afternoon, Kings Cross
By popular demand, I will be dressed as a dog with an animatronic tail and ears, performing stand-up from a dog’s perspective. Experimental to say the least. I need to have 20 minutes of this act by October. FML.
Star of Kings, 126 York Way, London N1 0AX
Tuesday July 18th 6:30pm - Lolipops, Southwark
Same as the 5th July, but this time I’m doing the early show.
The White Hart, 22 Great Suffolk Street, London SE1 0UG
Monday July 25th 7pm - Angel Comedy RAW
This is a big deal for me, so if you haven’t seen me for a while, please come and support me at this one.
The Camden Head, 2 Camden Walk, London N1 8DY
July is looking a bit sparse; if you run a gig you’d like me to do in July, or you know somewhere that’s looking for acts, please get in touch.

Here are some alternate illustrations I commissioned for my silly dragon story because I wasn’t sure all the artists would make the short deadline I needed.

Both great, but yaxtheghost’s style worked better for the tone of the story. Please buy the services of these talented artists before they’re put completely out of work by AI in about 5 years.

I’ve been looking at lists of ‘humorous fantasy’ lately and I stumbled across this funny clip from Netflix’s The Dragon Prince:
I’ve started watching the series and it’s pretty well done. There’s a tendency to overexplain some jokes, but then it is aimed at kids. Also, even though it’s apparently animated on computers, they’ve reproduced the lazy anime style where there’s about 12 frames per second. Is that just what weebs expect now? If you show someone from Gen Z an animation with 24 frames per second, do they have a panic attack because it’s too much information?
The Quest (HBO in US, Disney+ in UK) is a fascinating trainwreck where they get a bunch of actors to portray a high fantasy world, then drop a neurodiverse group of teens into it to ‘help’. This generation’s answer to Knightmare.
